Bust of Georgios Roussis

Busts

George Roussis of Tryphon was born in Giannitsa in 1953 and was a Corporal (PZ) of the ELDYK / Heavy Weapons Officer. He was killed by the Turks during the ELDYK attack to capture the village of Kioneli on 20 July 1974. He was only 21 years old.

The Municipality of Giannitsa, in order to honour the dead and missing from the Attila invasion of Cyprus in 1974, erected on 20 July 2003 a marble bust (0,65×0,50×0,40m) of Corporal Georgios Roussis. The bust was created by the sculptor Konstantinos Triantafyllidis and is placed in the square opposite the town hall of Giannitsa. The icon text is inscribed on the pedestal: ‘DECANEAS PZ GEORGIO TR. ROUSSIS 8.7.1953 – 20.7.1974

KILLED DURING THE TURKISH INVASION OF CYPRUS’.
