Loudias Krya Vrysi Route

On the river Loudias

South of Giannitsa, at a distance of just seven kilometres, the visitor will find himself on the Loudia River. The place is called “Zero”. Due to the zero altitude with the sea level, the river does not flow with momentum and the area is windless, which favors the unhindered training of athletes. Here is the municipal rowing rink, where the Giannitsa Yacht Club is active in the sports of canoeing, kayaking and rowing.

The operation of guesthouses and occasionally the restaurant make the location suitable for the organization of sports competitions and the hosting of environmental activities.

On the Road with the Poplars

After visiting the Loudias River, the visitor can follow the road with the riverside poplars. It is the side road on the summer journey that will lead him to Krya Vrysi and the sunlit villages of the plain.

Krya Vrysi

The town of Krya Vrysi was built near the Ottoman settlement of Plazna, on the site of an extensive cheflique of the late Ottoman period. In the course of the 20th century the small settlement underwent demographic changes. Vlachs and refugees settled here, who together with the local inhabitants made up the population of the town. However misleading the modern landscape may be, the visitor should bear in mind that once upon a time Krya Vrysi and the villages of Giannitsa were lakeside and adjacent to dense forests. The natural landscape has undergone many transformations over the centuries: sea, lagoon, then lake and after the drying up of the interwar period, fertile plain. Today, the ecological park and the central pedestrian street with its market and shops are the ideal rest stop for the visitor of the plain. In Krya Vrysi the annual carnival is organized with a parade and parallel events. The festival attracts many visitors every year.

In the square of Karyotissa

In the square of Karyotissa, south of the main road, the visitor can observe the CANADAIR NF-5A plane. It was erected in honor of Lieutenant Atmatzaki Evangelos, who died in 1987 in the line of duty.
