The History and Folk Museum of Giannitsa was founded in October 1997, with the initiative and actions of the History and Folklore Society ” Philippos ” and with the assistance of the local municipality and individuals to promote local history and folklore.

Upon entering the museum, the visitor finds himself in Hall A, where the development of the region of Giannitsa is presented from prehistoric times to the Macedonian Struggle (1904-1908) and the Battle of Giannitsa (1912). Hall B presents original traditional costumes, is developed which have been donated by citizens, friends of the museum.

In Room C, objects from the pre-industrial period are exhibited, as well as contemporary constructions by Mr. Achilleas Kannavos, which represent traditional professions. Visitor can observe the activities of traditional life.

Room D contains a genuine “formal living room” from a house of “Macedonian architecture”. In Room E there is a loom, weavings, embroideries and other crafts that complete the picture of the traditional house of Giannitsa. In the corridor, archival photographic material, newspapers and publications of Giannitsa are presented. In the  same hall there is a collection of rods made by Mr. Kyriakos Papadopoulos and donated to the museum. The last room Z presents the history of education from the Ottoman period to the 1970s.
